Why Single Matters?
The years one spends as an unmarried person offer unique opportunities. Single Matters exists to be a resource for singles at any age, but especially over 30—divorced, widowed or never married. Navigating relationships, career, faith and family can be done in a way that honors God when the foundation is built on the Word of God and encouraged by a community of believers who understand the issues of the single person’s heart.
Vision and Mission Statement
Our vision is to equip singles to glorify God.
Our mission is to encourage and empower the single man and woman to live a life that honors God according to Psalm 1:1-3, and to be all that God redeemed them to be by fleeing evil, walking in righteousness and bearing fruit in due season for the glory of God.
Who We Are
Single Matters is a program of Jill Monaco Ministries, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Jill Monaco always found herself serving along side of singles. Along the way, she found single women and men struggling with difficult questions in this season. Jill had not escaped this herself.
God started to show Jill how the world has influenced dating, singleness and marriage, and she believes the result is the growing percentage of singles in this generation: More than 50 percent of Americans are unmarried. Passionate in her belief that God created the covenant of marriage and the union of man and woman to glorify Him, Jill looked for resources to encourage members of this demographic to pursue health and wholeness as they head toward marriage. Jill also wanted to encourage those who feel called to remain unmarried to pursue the Gospel-centered life. With no online resource to serve singles over 30 who are “still single,” divorced or widowed, the board of Jill Monaco Ministries decided to create Single Matters. The goal isn’t to be married, but to be who God created and redeemed you to be, whether in singleness or marriage.
Jill Monaco Ministries has a growing desire to see Isaiah 61 made manifest:
“The Spirit of the LORD GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.” (ESV)
Single Matters is a collaborative effort between writers and ministry partners. Experts in their field will share wisdom for life—not just in singleness. We anticipate even our married friends will be visiting Single Matters! Our hope is that readers will find life more empowering, true freedom in Christ and renewed passion to experience the presence of God. Life, liberty and the pursuit of God.
Our desire is to respond to the needs of the single man and woman by bringing them a message of hope within four categories: Faith, Life, Relationships and Singleness. Topics include dating, being single again (divorced or widowed), single parenting, preparing for marriage, community, sex, purity, health, career, money, freedom, prayer and spiritual development.
We will work to bring articles that will speak to the Biblical affirmation of the role of the single man or woman in the church, community, family unit and marriage. We seek to call them up to into who God created them to be by revealing the enemy’s lies, replacing them with God’s truth so they can receive healing from failed relationships, personal loss and sexual sin. We will address purity before marriage and the cultural trends regarding the delay of the pursuit of a marriage partner. We will also provide encouragement and resources for the single parent or widowed. You’ll find articles to strengthen your faith through devotionals, prayer tools and interviews with experts. We pray that the resources we find for learning how to manage your finances, cook for one and take care of your body are encouraging also—because life stuff matters too.
We have other great ideas for content in store for the future, so be sure to check back as we grow! We have online programs and retreats in the beginning planning stages already.
We pray you are encouraged by what you read while visiting Single Matters. You are the reason it was created.
What’s With the Leaf?
Psalm 1: 1-3 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers.” (ESV)
Singles, let’s not live the single life the way the world lives. Instead, let’s delight ourselves in the presence and the ways of the Lord. He helps us become like strong trees when our roots are near His living water. Then are we able to produce fruit that is life-giving to others. God promises in due season we will see the evidence of our faith – all things hoped for but not seen. We will not grow weary. It will go well with us.
Statement of Faith
- We believe in one God who is eternally existent in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- We affirm that the Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments, is alone the only infallible, inspired Word of God, and that its authority is ultimate, final and eternal.
- Christ’s death on the cross paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world, but its benefits are only applicable to those who receive Jesus as their personal Savior.
- Salvation is a free gift of God, based on the merits of the death of His Son, and is appropriated by faith.
- The Word of God enjoins on the Church two perpetual ordinances of the Lord Jesus Christ: baptism, an outward sign of salvation, and the Lord’s Supper, a commemoration of His death on the cross.
- We believe in the bodily, personal, second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennium and the final judgment.
